How I can help
Every charity is different, but the reasons people get in touch tend to follow a pattern.
You might have a specific problem to solve, a gap in your team, or simply a feeling that your communications could be working harder. Here are the five situations I come across most often.
Do any of these sound familiar?
-
You've invested time and energy in your communications, and things have been going well. Now the person leading that work is moving on, and you don't want to lose momentum.
You're not sure yet whether to recruit, outsource or share responsibilities across the team, and you need some breathing space to work that out.
I can help you:
Maintain momentum while you decide on next steps
Manage social media and newsletters
Support staff taking on communications responsibilities
Put simple systems and processes in place
Provide ongoing communications support
Whether you need cover for a few months or something more ongoing, I can help you find a practical solution that works for your organisation.
Typical commitment: 2–4 days a month
-
You're doing good work - but you're not sure your communications are reflecting that as well as they could.
Perhaps your social media feels inconsistent, your messages aren't landing, or you simply haven't had time to step back and look at the bigger picture.
I can help you:
Review your current communications
Identify strengths and gaps
Facilitate team discussions and workshops
Clarify your key messages
Develop a practical communications plan
The aim isn't a document that gathers dust. It's clear, realistic actions that help you move forward.
Typical commitment: 3–6 days

Many small charities can't justify a dedicated communications lead - but still need experienced support to make their communications work.
You might have staff creating content alongside other responsibilities, or you might need someone to provide advice, direction and a fresh perspective from outside the organisation.
I can work alongside your team to:
Support communications planning
Provide strategic advice
Review content and campaigns
Help identify stories and opportunities
Build confidence within your team
Think of me as an experienced communications colleague without the commitment of a new member of staff.
Typical commitment: 1–2 days a month
-
You have stories to tell, services to promote and impact to share. The problem is finding the time to turn all of that into consistent, engaging communications.
I can support you with:
Social media content
Content planning
Newsletters
Basic Canva graphics
Campaign content
Most clients provide photos, updates and information about their work. I help turn that into communications that sound like you and reach the people who need to hear it.
Typical commitment: 2–3 days a month
-

I try to be upfront about pricing, because I know budgets matter.
Retained support (scenarios 1, 3 and 4 above) is based on my standard day rate of £400. Most retained clients work with me for 1–4 days a month, so typically £400–£1,600 a month depending on what you need.
Consultancy projects (scenario 2) are charged at a fixed fee depending on scope, usually equivalent to 3–6 days. I'll always give you a clear quote before we start.
Mentoring is £120 a month, which includes a one-hour session and email support between sessions. Discounted bundles and a sliding scale are available for small organisations and solo freelancers. Find out more →
Because I'm flexible in how I work, a day tends to go further than you might expect - spread across several days or weeks to fit around you.

That's completely normal.
Many of the people who get in touch know they need some help — they're just not sure what form it should take. That's absolutely fine. We can start with a conversation, talk through what's going on, and work out together whether I'd be a good fit.
